One dog's haircut has earned him some serious attention, thanks to the radical before-and-after.
Brewster, who is believed to be a miniature goldendoodle, went from fluffy furball to virtually hairless pup after a visit to the grooming salon—much to the amusement of his owners.
Owner Bree, 33, from Washington, told Newsweek the reasons behind Brewster's dramatic makeover. She said that the decision to shave the dog's luxurious curly coat was made as a last resort after the house had a flea infestation. So, the couple decided to shave both of their dogs completely.
"We were trying everything possible, but were still having trouble getting rid of the fleas. As a last resort, we decided to shave both of our dogs," Bree said.
When Brewster returned from his trip to the canine salon, Bree and her husband were shocked by the results. "It was never meant for him to be shaved so short," she said. "The guard ended up being way shorter than we thought."
Thankfully though, everyone seemed to see the funny side—except perhaps the dog himself: "When my husband told me to come look at the status of the hair, I was shocked at how different he looked. I couldn't stop laughing, but also felt bad because he looked so silly and he almost seemed embarrassed. He looked like an entirely different dog."
Brewster's fur was shaved on October 16 and has been growing back since. Even after several weeks, his fur is still a little way from its former glory.
Flea season usually begins in spring and lasts through the summer into the fall, but the pests can survive year-round in some parts of the Pacific Northwest.
The Washington State Department of Health offer resources to prevent and control fleas. These include washing pet bedding often, vacuuming and cleaning thoroughly and frequently, and keeping lawns trimmed.
With the before-and-after pictures in hand, Bree decided to share Brewster's ordeal on TikTok, where it has gained over 45 million views since October 30.
"I actually laughed when I first noticed he got 900 views because, for us, that was a lot. I didn't log back in for a few days because I forgot about the post entirely," said Bree. "I was shocked when I logged back in and saw it had 1 million views. I never thought it would get to 1 million, let alone 40+ million."
With his transformation leaving him an internet sensation, Brewster's humorous makeover has prompted plenty of responses from viewers.
"The fact they actually look like that underneath all the fur makes me laugh," wrote Tigerthrifts, while I.Dont.Have.A.Name added: "He was once a Doodle, now he's a Chihuahua."
"That is a whole other dog," posted another viewer. Others joked about the strand of hair that had been left on his chin.
As Brewster slowly regains his signature coat, his owner Bree continues to share updates on his fur with over 19,000 followers on the TikTok page.
